Post-Doctoral Researcher in Theoretical or Experimental Pragmatics / Cognitive Science

The position will be filled for a period of 30 months. Payment is at 100% of full time E13.
The position is associated with the project "Communicating Causal Information", which is funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) and is executed in a Germany-UK collaboration with Principal Investigators Prof. Dr. Michael Franke (University of Tübingen) and Dr.Daniel Lassiter (University of Edinburgh). The project seeks to investigate communicative strategies for conveying causal information in natural language, by leveraging probabilistic models of pragmatic language use and interpretation. This work involves philosophical / linguistic analysis, experiments with human participants, and mathematical / statistical modeling.
Requirements for employment are a completed PhD degree in a relevant field (Linguistics, Cognitive Science, Psychology, Philosophy, or similar), near native-level of spoken and written English, and robust formal and programming skills, as documented through prior research publications.Knowledge of the literature on causal cognition, causal language or the philosophy of causation is welcome. Some experience with experimental work, statistical data analysis and mathematical modeling is presupposed. The ability to work in a diverse, multi-national team is required.
