PhD Researcher in Theoretical or Experimental Pragmatics / Cognitive Science

The position will be filled for a period of three years. Payment is at 65% of full time E13.
The position is associated with the project "Communicating Causal Information", which is funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) and is executed in a Germany-UK collaboration with Principal Investigators Prof. Dr. Michael Franke (University of Tübingen) and Dr.Daniel Lassiter (University of Edinburgh). The project seeks to investigate communicative strategies for conveying causal information in natural language, by leveraging probabilistic models of pragmatic language use and interpretation. This work involves philosophical / linguistic analysis, experiments with human participants, and mathematical / statistical modeling.
Requirements for employment are a completed M.A. or equivalent in a relevant field (Linguistics, Cognitive Science, Psychology, Philosophy, or similar), near native-level of spoken and written English, and robust formal and programming skills, as documented through course work or research projects.Rudimentary experience with experimental work and statistical data analysis, possibly also mathematical modeling, is expected, but additional skills can be acquired during the project. The ability to work in a diverse, multi-national team is required.
The project offers a cohesive interdisciplinary research environment at the University of Tübingen and a dedicated interdisciplinary project team.
