Your team

You will be part of the Directorate General On-Site and Internal Model Inspections. Our Directorate General performs on-site inspections (OSIs) and internal model investigations (IMIs), primarily at banks’ premises. Our work includes coordinating the planning and execution of the on-site supervisory programme.
We develop and maintain comprehensive on-site methodologies for inspections, IMIs and asset quality reviews, ensure harmonised on-site approaches for the Single Supervisory Mechanism (SSM) and contribute to the identification of risks and supervisory priorities.

The Directorate General is closely integrated with ongoing supervision and horizontal activities, providing independent, consistent and complementary high-quality assessments.

In your role as Supervisor in the Processes and Integration Section of the Operations and Integration Division, you will contribute to the management of common processes to support and monitor the execution of the on-site supervisory programme and integration with the SSM supervisory cycle.

We are looking for two people to join our Monitoring and Reporting team or our Training and Communication team.

As part of our Monitoring and Reporting team, you will contribute to the monitoring and reporting of OSIs and IMIs in significant institutions. In doing so, you will manage common processes, tools and dashboards supporting the execution of the on-site supervisory programme.

As part of our Training and Communication team, you will support the coordination of training for on-site inspectors with a view to ensuring harmonised OSI and IMI processes across the SSM.

The Single Supervisory Mechanism (SSM) is the system of banking supervision in Europe. It comprises the ECB and the national supervisory authorities of the participating countries.

The ECB is an inclusive employer and we strive to reflect the diversity of the population we serve. We encourage you to apply irrespective of age, disability, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, race, religious beliefs, sexual orientation or other characteristics.

Your role

As a Supervisor you will:

  • as part of the Monitoring and Reporting team: carry out activities to optimise, manage and integrate processes, tools and dashboards to support the efficient and effective performance of OSIs and IMIs across the ECB;
  • as part of the Training and Communication team:
  • help to coordinate training activities and perform communication tasks for the community of on-site inspectors;
  • support the execution of the on-site supervisory programme by carrying out various organisational tasks;
  • support and collaborate on the Directorate General’s flagship projects.

For both positions you will:

  • manage communication tasks using an array of relevant tools, support the organisation of events and workshops for the on-site community, as well as contribute to the maintenance of OSI-related methodology;
  • engage and collaborate with the various stakeholders working with the Operations and Integration Division, including colleagues from the other divisions within the Directorate General and from the national competent authorities;
  • help to prepare briefings and presentations related to the Division’s tasks.
This position offers you excellent opportunities to analyse cutting-edge issues relating to prudential supervision and to strengthen your project management skills by dealing with key supervisory processes in a multi-stakeholder environment.
You will also have the chance to further develop your organisational and communication skills as well as to improve your competences in working with a wide range of stakeholders across European banking supervision. Furthermore, you will be able to hone your ability to think analytically and challenge constructively, with a focus on results, teamwork, cooperation and communication.

You will be part of a multicultural team that strives for continuous innovation to make a positive impact on the lives of European citizens.

Qualifications, experience and skills

Essential:

  • a master’s degree or equivalent in business administration, economics, finance, accounting, political science, law, mathematics, physics, information technology or another relevant field (see How you can join us for details on degree equivalences);
  • in addition to the above, a minimum of three years’ relevant professional experience (other than as a trainee or intern) in the field of risk analysis/assessment at a banking supervisory authority and/or a financial institution, audit or consultancy, a regulatory body and/or a central bank, gained through internal or external roles and/or positions;
  • experience in planning or project management, or in a position that involves coordination among several stakeholders;
  • an ability to effectively coordinate tasks under tight deadlines and time pressure, while working with multiple stakeholders or processes;
  • an ability to work with data and analyse complex cases, providing clear, concise outcomes;
  • an ability to coordinate and manage relations with internal and external stakeholders;
  • drafting and presentation skills, including an ability to prepare efficient presentations for diverse audiences;
  • an advanced (C1) command of English and an intermediate (B1) command of at least one other official language of the EU, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

Desired:

  • good knowledge of data analysis and visualisation tools, e.g. Excel, Python, VBA, Tableau, relational databases and SQL;
  • experience in banking supervision in the context of the Single Supervisory Mechanism, ideally (i) contributing to OSIs/IMIs or audits, and/or (ii) monitoring and/or reporting on on-site missions or similar projects and processes.
You engage collaboratively with others. You pursue team goals and learn willingly from other people’s diverse perspectives. You signal any need for change by explaining it and proposing alternative solutions. You analyse complex information effectively and can evaluate different views to arrive at solutions.

You know and anticipate stakeholder needs.

You are motivated to contribute to the ECB’s mission, to serve the citizens of the EU as a member of a public institution and to work with colleagues from all over Europe. You are motivated to be part of our team and to develop and use your skills and competencies to achieve the aims of this position.

Working modalities

Working for European banking supervision involves spending short periods of time abroad for on-site visits or training. This important part of our work is complemented by an environment in which well-being and a good work-life balance are fostered.

Playing a role in European banking supervision also entails collaborating in multinational and multicultural teams and operating in the context of different national frameworks, for which a strong ability to use different EU languages for business purposes is an asset.
