The opportunity has arisen to join an industry leader in UK’s Building Services sector. Alternative Heat design, develop and deliver a wide range of offsite-prefabricated, innovative, and sustainable building service solutions throughout the UK & Europe.

We specialise in the design, supply, and installation of a wide range of prefabricated energy solutions, with our manufactured products produced in NI and shipped throughout the UK & Europe. We offer a full turn key design, manufacture, installation service for high profiled projects in the data centre sector, as well as large scale commercial project for the decarbonisation sector throughout the UK & Ireland, where we continue to grow within these sectors.

Due to continued growth within the Data Centre sector, we are looking to integrate as a site based BIM Coordination Engineer to support our teams.
Role:
This Site Based BIM Coordination Engineer is responsible for overseeing and validating the onsite MEP construction phased works in alignment with the approved BIM model. This role involves working closely with the client, architects, engineers, sub-contractors, and other project teams to ensure that all Building Information Modelling (BIM) practices align with the project delivery requirements and quality standards.

The role requires frequent site visits to the project location to review construction coordination, report on progress, and resolve any potential issues that could affect the timeline or quality of the installation.

Hours | 38hrs per week; 8.00am to 5pm Mon to Thurs, 8.00am to 3pm Fri.

Responsible to | Head of Operations / Head of BIM

Key Responsibilities

Site Validation:

  • Conduct frequent visits to the construction site to assess and report the current status of the project construction works in comparison to the project programme
  • Validate that all structural, architectural and MEP elements being completed on-site by other contractors in the vicinity of Alternative Heat prefabricated MEP modules are aligned with the design coordination within the BIM model utilising an i Pad tablet with AR cloud base software package, reporting any potential clashing issues or discrepancies that needs addressed as soon as possible to the head office project teams

Design & BIM Model Validation:

  • Review the design coordination model of the Alternative Heat offsite prefabricated MEP modules and any onsite M&E elements to be installed by Alternative Heat prior to our contract works commence and post onsite installation.
  • Review the construction phase installation sequence of the Alternative Heat MEP modules to ensure that there is installation routes and access available to correctly install and coordinate into final position as indicated in the BIM model.
  • Facilitate model coordination meetings to address any design conflicts or issues.

Collaboration with Site Teams:

  • Collaborate and build a working relationship with the relevant site based project BIM and design teams to review the design coordination intent and alleviate any potential issues
  • Facilitate communication between the client, architects, engineers, and subcontractors to ensure seamless integration of design changes or coordination updates.
  • Facilitate model coordination meetings to address any design conflicts or issues.
  • Assist site based Alternative Heat installation teams on any project information they may require from the BIM model including MEP module setting out etc.

Quality Control & Approvals:

  • Review the installed prefabricated MEP modules and associated works completed by the Alternative Heat installation team and report on compliance with the BIM coordination agreed with client.
  • Validate that structural fixings, supports, and openings associated with the installation of the prefabricated MEP modules are correctly positioned and dimensioned.

Reporting & Communication:

  • Provide detailed reports on site validation findings, including any issues, discrepancies, recommendations, or approvals, ensuring that all stakeholders are kept informed.
  • Communicate effectively with the head office, site team and other project teams to resolve issues identified during site visits

Technical Design Compliance:

  • Ensure any technical design compliance requirements that may affect the installation, commissioning, and client handover of the prefabrication MEP modules are documented and shared with relevant project team members (ie. fire rating requirements)

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Essential Criteria:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a BIM role within an MEP company.
  • Understanding and knowledge of Autodesk Revit & Navisworks software
  • Strong communication and team skills.
  • Organised to deliver assigned tasks within set deadline dates.
  • Microsoft office skills – Outlook, Excel, Word, Power Point, Microsoft teams.
  • Fluent English & existing right to work in Germany.

Desirable Criteria:

  • A relevant third level education.
  • Knowledge of the building services, architecture or structural design.
  • Ability to take ownership of assigned projects from inception to completion.
