The Senior R&T Satcom Engineer is responsible for research and development of broadband communications satellite terminals for commercial aircraft applications. Responsibilities include technology scouting and selection, requirements development, system and subsystem architecture and specification, interface design as well as test and verification from the system level down to component level.
It is important for the job to understand the aeronautical requirements of the aircraft manufacturers and certification authorities in order to translate them into requirements and design. Tasks include all technical activities related to our satellite communication products in cooperation with our partners who develop and manufacture our Satcom components and those who provide satellite communication services.

A particular focus of the work is on electronically steerable antennas, RF signal conversion, signal transmission and modems.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Technology scouting and selection of potential technology providers
  • Translating customer needs into system and device requirements
  • Creation and maintenance of aeronautic requirement documents
  • Define system architecture, sub-systems and interfaces
  • Analyze, verify and test that design meets the requirements
  • Participation in and management of technical projects
  • Perform design reviews, both internal and for customers
  • Work closely with external technology and service providers, customers, manufacturers and other stakeholders
  • Collaborate in multidisciplinary engineering and program teams internally and externally with technology and service providers to perform testing and approvals
  • Continuously contribute to improve established research and development processes
  • Perform other job-related duties and training as assigned
Requirements
  • Master’s degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Communications Engineering or related field, or equivalent working experience
  • 6+ years of experience working in a similar role in the field of Satellite or Mobile Communications Technology in a RF laboratory environment
  • Familiarity with electronic test equipment and hands-on experience with satellite platforms such as Hughes, Gilat, Viasat, Starlink, etc.
  • Experience managing large, interconnected requirements sets
