The Chair of Security and Privacy of Ubiquitous Systems (Prof. Dr. Veelasha Moonsamy) has an immediate full-time PhD position in the area of LLMs and Privacy.

The aim of the BMBF project SENTIMENT is to research in an interdisciplinary manner which processes work in communication with chatbots when people reveal sensitive or intimate information. For this purpose, researchers from psychology, computer science, law and art work together.

Based on an inventory of intimate self-reveal in communication situations with chatbots, the researchers carry out a risk assessment with regard to data protection and self-determination of users. From this, they derive targeted privacy-by-design mechanisms to counteract the previously identified risks and evaluate them as part of an empirical study.

Your tasks:

  • Empirical investigation of self-disclosure tendencies and privacy concerns in intimate interactions with dialogue systems (personal and system variables) and empirical testing of privacy-by-design mechanisms/interventions derived from computer science and law (e.g. mandatory labelling)
  • Risk analysis based on adversary models & creation or testing of privacy-by-design mechanisms/interventions
  • Create intermediary reports for the BMBF project coordinator, industry partners and other relevant stakeholders

We are looking for a PhD candidate with the following profile:

  • A Bachelor and Master’s degree in computer science, Interactive Media Technologies or a relevant discipline
