We are supporting an innovative high-tech engineering organisation developing next-generation laser and optical technologies. As part of a multidisciplinary engineering team, we are looking for an experienced Mechanical Engineer with a strong understanding of optical system design and essential experience using Zemax.

Profile

This is an excellent opportunity to work remotely on technically challenging projects involving precision optical assemblies, laser systems and advanced engineering solutions.

The Role

You will be responsible for the mechanical design and development of precision optical systems, ensuring mechanical solutions meet demanding optical performance requirements. Working closely with optical, laser, electrical and systems engineers, you will contribute throughout the full product development lifecycle, from concept and simulation through to prototype validation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design precision mechanical components and assemblies for advanced optical systems
  • Collaborate closely with Optical Engineers to ensure mechanical designs support optical performance and alignment requirements
  • Use Zemax to review optical layouts, assess tolerances and support opto-mechanical integration
  • Develop innovative mechanical solutions for laser-based systems and precision instrumentation
  • Perform tolerance analyses and contribute to design optimisation
  • Produce detailed CAD models, manufacturing drawings and technical documentation
  • Support design reviews and collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams
  • Provide technical support during prototype development and system validation
Essential Experience
  • Proven experience designing precision mechanical systems
  • Strong commercial experience using Zemax is essential
  • Experience working with optical systems, photonics or laser technologies
  • Understanding of opto-mechanical integration and precision alignment
  • Experience using modern 3D CAD software (Siemens NX, Creo, SolidWorks or similar)
  • Strong knowledge of engineering tolerances and precision manufacturing
  • Fluent German (minimum C1) is essential
  • Good English communication skills
