Your prospective job:

You will be working as a Satellite Quantum Security Engineer (m/f/d) in the greater Munich Area for our renowned customer in the aerospace industry.

Your responsibilities:

• The forthcoming generation of secure communication must be capable of withstanding prospective threat scenarios that may exploit the latest technological advances
• The use of satellite-based quantum key distribution (QKD) represents a transformative solution to the key distribution problem, facilitating a novel approach to provably secure communication, particularly over extended distances
• It is imperative that ongoing and future projects undergo a finite-key security analysis with particular focus on the security of implementation for quantum key distribution (QKD) protocols and quantum-based random number generation (QRNG)
• In particular, there is a need to bridge the gap between theoretical concepts and their experimental implementation with current optical and photonic technologies
• In the context of several quantum technology development projects, we are seeking to enlist the support of our quantum technology development team
• If you are interested in playing a role in the development of the future of the European secure communication infrastructure and already possess expertise in the theoretical description of quantum systems, this open position may be an optimal fit for your qualifications and experience

Your profile:

• Degree in physics, mathematics, theoretical computer science, quantum optics or equivalent subjects with in-depth knowledge of quantum mechanical modelling of systems or a comparable qualification
• Experience with the development of security proofs in the context of QKD protocols or QRNGs and their implementations, i.e. against quantum adversaries
• Motivation to actively participate in space-based missions to secure future European data communications
• Experience with performance simulations of QKD systems, including estimates of secret key rate estimates
• Willingness to engage in the development of new protocols in collaboration with academic partners
• Technical knowledge and experience with cryptosystems
• Passion for providing systematic approaches to proving the security properties of systems and experience or interest in learning security risk analysis using the EBIOS or ISO method
• Experience or willingness to learn, contribute to or lead proposals and subsequent studies
