Master Thesis Enter the fascinating world of the German Aerospace Center (Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt; DLR) and help shape the future through research and innovation! We offer an exciting and inspiring working environment driven by the expertise and curiosity of our 11,000 employees from 100 nations and our unique infrastructure.

Together, we develop sustainable technologies and thus contribute to finding solutions to global challenges. Would you like to join us in addressing this major future challenge? Then this is your place! For our Institute of Networked Energy Systems in Oldenburg we are looking for Student Energy Technologies, Computer Science, Chemistry or similar (f/m/d) Modeling the degradation of electrolyzers in integrated energy systems What to expect: Would you like to work in an interactive, cooperative and international team?

Are you interested in the new and further development of renewable energy technologies, in particular in the development of algorithms and technologies for the optimal operation of energy systems? Then the Institute of Networked Energy Systems is an attractive employer for you.
Our primary research objective is the development of concepts and technologies that ensure a stable energy system based on weather-dependent and decentralized power generation from renewable energies. The Institute of Networked Energy Systems employs around 190 people at its Oldenburg and Stuttgart sites and deals with system engineering and system analysis issues related to the intelligent and efficient coupling of the electricity, heating, industry and transport sectors.
The Energy System Technology department focuses on the interaction between system-relevant energy technologies within decentralized networked structures. In the distribution grid in particular, we are striving for new architectures for the energy systems of the future that ensure robust grid operation even under the influence of fluctuating feed-in sources.
The project SYSTOGEN100 aims to orchestrate energy systems with electrolyzers by optimizing them with regard to sustainability, grid security and economic efficiency. By orchestration we mean the design, financing and operation of these energy systems.
The understanding, analysis and modeling of degradation processes, in particular of electrolyzers, is an important aspect of this. As part of the SYSTOGEN100 project you will: Perform detailed analyses of electrolyser operation under different conditions withdegradation mechanisms and their impact on system performance, safety and economic aspects.
Determine relevant parameters for modelling the degradation of electrolysers. Further develop existing modelling approaches or implement new ideas. What we expect from you: You are currently pursuing a Master's degree in engineering, energy research, chemistry, physics, mathematics, computer science or comparable disciplines.
You already have programming and modeling skills, especially in Python, and experience in the field of energy system technologies. Independent work, solving complex problems, English as a working language and good analytical skills are a matter of course for you.
Ideally, you already have some experience in linear modeling and optimization as well as in the field of hydrogen or electrolyzers. What we offer: DLR stands for diversity, appreciation and equality for all people. We promote independent work and the individual development of our employees both personally and professionally.
To this end, we offer numerous training and development opportunities. Equal opportunities are of particular importance to us, which is why we want to increase the proportion of women in science and management in particular. Applicants with severe disabilities will be given preference if they are qualified.

Further information: Starting date: 01.12.2024Duration of contract: up to 1 year Type of employment: Part-time Remuneration: Depending on qualifications and assignment of tasks up to German TVöD 5.
