The newly founded Chair of Computer Science at Ruhr University Bochum (RUB) unites all ongoing computer science activities in an interdisciplinary manner. The university has been a leader in IT security in Europe for over 20 years, and this expertise plays a central role in the new faculty.The Chair for Computer Security, led by Prof. Dr. Yuval Yarom, focuses on the security implications of the interaction between software and hardware, identifying vulnerabilities, and designing countermeasures.
The role involves researching novel techniques in the above mentioned field, aiming to publish in top international venues, expand the research network, initiate international collaborations, and develop independent research questions.

Your tasks:
- Research and development of novel techniques in the context of side-channel attacks and defenses
- Conducting quantitative and qualitative studies to evaluate security approaches
- Publication of research results in leading international venues
- optional: Teaching assistance for courses/seminars/projects of the group
- optional: Supervision of Bachelor and Master’s students
Your profile:
- Required: Master’s Degree or a strong Bachelor Degree in Computer Science or related field
- Required: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in English
- Desired: Background in microarchitectural side-channel attacks
- Desired: Experience with combinatorial optimization and evolutionary algorithms
