Senior Design Engineer
Long Description:
A Senior Design Engineer’s primary role is to support presales and post-sales teams by acting as a technical consultant. This includes translating customer requirements into functional system designs, generating technical documentation, and ensuring the proposed solutions align with client expectations and the latest AV/UC technologies.The Senior Design Engineer works closely with sales contacts to refine project scope, develop solution offers, and ensure clear knowledge transfer to the implementation teams. Additionally, they review and validate the work of Design Engineers I and II to maintain quality and compliance with project specifications.
- Engage with sales contacts to clearly define customer requirements, including equipment specifications and end-user experience needs, and translate them into functional designs.
- Act as the subject matter expert (SME) for complex AV and UC solutions, supporting pre-sales efforts by defining functional requirements and identifying opportunities for solution enhancements.
- Manage the conceptual design process, including scopes of work and bespoke solutions where required, to ensure alignment with AVI-SPL standards.
- Document specifications, including Bill of Materials and service reporting requirements, to facilitate solution handoff to the implementation team.
- Assist in responding to RFx activities, providing technical specifications, product lists, and supporting documents for proposal generation.
- Support project deployment by managing phased timelines and setting expectations for conferencing, incident management, and solution handoff requirements.
- Collaborate on solution handoffs to the Service Implementation Team, including providing consultative and change management support through the first 30 days of production as required.
- Proactively gather and relay market intelligence to Product Management and DevOps, offering insights from customer feedback, gap analyses, and competitive intelligence.
- Regularly engage with vendors to evaluate product suitability and stay current with industry advancements in AV and UC technology.

- Strong client engagement and communication skills, with the ability to interpret and document technical requirements.
- Proven ability to manage multi-step problem-solving, including structured troubleshooting of complex AV/UC network and connection issues.
- Skilled at balancing multiple priorities with changing demands while maintaining high attention to detail.
- Strong proficiency in creating and reviewing technical documentation and conceptual designs to support smooth project handoffs.
- High-level familiarity with AV/UC technologies, including AMX/Crestron programming, test and calibration equipment, and advanced computer skills for system configuration.
- Proven business writing skills

- Ability to diagnose complex system problems
- Advanced computer skills as required for the design, configuration, and operation of AV equipment
- Ability to work and think independently and ensuring to meet deadlines
- Effective communication and interaction with employees, clients and colleagues
- Valid Driver’s License and a Motor Vehicle Record that meets AVI-SPL driving standards
- Formal education in Electronics or related field preferred
- Minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
- At least 10 years of AV experience is preferred
- A minimum of 6 years of AV experience plus a four year degree or military experience may be considered in place of job experience
