One of our strengths is our constant redefinition and realignment. These strengths are particularly valuable in times of transformation towards e-mobility. One of the technologies that will play an important role in this transformation is the hydrogen PEM fuel cell.Advantages of the hydrogen PEM fuel cell include high ranges and short refueling times.
This has prompted KNIPPING to establish a new business division called KNIPPING NEW MOBILITY. The focus of KNIPPING NEW MOBILITY is on the development of Balance-of-Plant (Bo P) components for the cathode subsystem of a fuel cell system. The primary focus initially is on developing a humidifier.
Internship/Master thesis (m/w/d) “CFD Simulation of a fuel cell humidifier”
KNIPPING NEW MOBILITY is a rapidly growing business unit which is currently looking to further develop it‘s CFD simulation capacity and know-how. Therefore, we are looking to fill the role of a master student who will be responsible for the CFD simulation of a fuel cell humidifier within an internship or the master thesis.
Main Tasks:
- Working together with our design team to optimise the geometry
- Meshing of the finalised geometry
- Defining the boundary conditions of the simulation together with the system development team
- Further developing a KNIPPING CFD simulation method to simulate heat and mass trans fer through state-of-art membranes used in humidifiers. This will include the following:
o Multi-phase flow with evaporation and condensation
- Carrying out the simulation and analysing the results
- Identifying how the design can be improved and giving this feedback to our design team
Your Profile:
- Currently doing a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Process Engineering or in a comparable subject
- A very good understanding of fluid and thermodynamics
- Experience of CFD Simulation software such as Star-CCM, Ansys Fluent or Openfoam
- Knowledge of meshing software (Ansys Meshing, Ansa)A
- Ability to breakdown a complex problem and to define steps to solve it
- Being able to work independently and pro-actively but also to be able communicate efficiently and accurately with other team members and teams
