Team Head Accounting - Berlin

The Team Head Accounting will be a key member of our leadership team, responsible for overseeing all aspects of financial accounting across all Scope Group entities. The successful candidate will ensure the organisation of the Accounting Team, commensurate with Policies, Standards, agreed deliverables and established practices.
This role requires a strategic thinker with strong leadership skills, in-depth knowledge of German-GAAP accounting principles, and a track record of driving process improvements and efficiency gains. The successful candidate will also play a critical role in supporting our growth objectives and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.

In this position the incumbent will be expected to work on stringent deadlines and across multiple group entities and pro-actively contribute to the further development of the Accounting Team. The position is based in our company headquarter in Berlin.

Duties & responsibilities

Technical Duties & Responsibilities
  • Act as a central point of coordination in all accounting related matters for colleagues, management, auditors and tax lawyers
  • Act as the central coordinator for regular payment cycles
  • Responsible for all German-GAAP accounting-related topics and questions
  • Preparation of monthly accounts in a timely, complete and accurate manner (e.g. coordinate Accounts Receivables, Accounts Payables and GL posting and disclosures)
  • Preparation of Statutory Accounts (incl. Notes and Management Reports)
  • Oversee tax related topics jointly with Scope’s Tax Department
Internal Controls and Compliance:
  • Establish and maintain internal control policies and procedures in the accounting department to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with laws and regulations.
  • Conduct periodic reviews and audits to assess the effectiveness of internal controls and identify areas for improvement within the accounting department in cooperation with internal and external auditors.
Team Leadership and Development:
  • Lead and mentor a team of accounting professionals, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous learning.
  • Set clear goals and performance expectations and provide ongoing feedback and coaching to team members.
  • Develop talent pipelines and succession plans to ensure the long-term success of the accounting department.
Systems and Process Improvement:
  • Cooperate with the Technology department and other stakeholders to ensure that the technical setup of Scope’s ERP system (MS Dynamics) consistently meets the evolving needs of the business
  • Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes and improve efficiency through the implementation of automation and technology solutions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate financial systems and data sources for better decision-making and reporting.
Professional & personal qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or equivalent certification preferred
  • Minimum of 6-8 years of progressive experience in accounting, with at least 4 years in a leadership role
  • Strong technical knowledge of German-GAAP and IFRS accounting requirements
  • Profound understanding of regulations impacting a listed company – Financial Markets experience considered an advantage
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g. MS Dynamics) and advanced Excel skills
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with senior levels of the organization
  • Proven track record of driving process improvements and managing change in a fast-paced environment.
  • Full fluency in English and German
