- QM 2025/1 The Department for ATQM of Prof. Reuther studies strongly correlated electron systems, with a special focus on quantum magnetism. We are particularly interested in a theoretical understanding of frustrated spin systems, possibly hosting novel types of quantum states such as spin liquids. In collaboration with our experimental colleagues at Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin, we aim to transfer our knowledge to real materials, to develop a microscopic understanding of magnetism in nature.
- You investigate novel magnetic quantum phases in complex three-dimensional lattice structures, transfer the obtained insights to magnetic materials, and collaborate with experimental groups within and outside the Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin.
- You investigate emergent phenomena of quantum magnetism, such as fractional quasiparticles and effective gauge theories.
- You apply machine learning methods for modelling magnetic quantum materials.
- You collaborate closely with the Physics Department at Freie Universität Berlin and its research groups.
- Master's degree in theoretical solid state physics
- Profound knowledge in the field of quantum magnetism
- Experience with analytical or numerical methods in solid state physics
- Programming experience Your Benefits at HZB
- Opportunity to contribute to the development of innovative materials and technological solutions for a climate-neutral future in cooperation with leading international researchers
