The successful candidate will have technical knowledge and Manufacturing Engineering experience within a high-volume manufacturing environment specifically, experience in managing new product and technology introductions, equipment projects (new installations) and process optimization, upgrades, and modifications.

The Role
As a Senior Manufacturing Engineer - Planning in the Paint Shop, you are leading process improvements and the digital pre assessment for new product introductions. The position is responsible for ensuring projects are executed efficiently, with a focus on cost, quality, and timing.You are responsible for reviewing the Design and evaluate potential issues for the Paint Process from concept to End of Life as well as problem solving of existing equipment and processes within the shop. You know and understand all processes in the paintshop and are able to evaluate required changes for changing production and product demands.

The successful candidate will have technical knowledge and Manufacturing Engineering experience within a high-volume manufacturing environment specifically, experience in managing new product and technology introductions, equipment projects (new installations) and process optimization, upgrades, and modifications.
You should follow a first-principle approach and be hands-on. Looking into improving processes and equipment by design is desired. Driving continuous improvement inside Paint and interfacing areas to other shops is a must. You will have the opportunity to learn a lot and have a great impact on Tesla’s mission.
- Develop comprehensive manufacturing strategies for new models and projects by conducting detailed feasibility studies, project timing assessments, and cost estimate studies.
- Conduct Digital pre Assessment with regards to processability and manufacturability
- Review and Understand Pre Treatment and Electrocoat Fluid Studies
- Analyse if a product can be produced with regards to Pre Treatment, Sealer, Workdecks and Robot application
- Collaborate with the product design team and attend DFM sessions to ensure the implementation of flexible, cost-effective, robust, and reusable processes and equipment
- Conduct DFMEA, PFMEA, and Fault Tree analysis for the Paintshop
- Lead the design and launch of manufacturing lines, overseeing the entire process from bid package development to handover to operations. This includes vendor selection, front-end engineering design, design reviews, fabrication, acceptance testing, construction, installation, and commissioning.
- Manage project execution to ensure adherence to scope, schedule, and budget. Procure equipment, closely monitor budget costs, and track project schedules.
- Take full ownership of the mechanical part design life cycle, from conception and analysis to 3D CAD design and bill of materials (BOM) management.
- Plan, organize and manage validation trials and report status to senior management
- Coordinate continuous improvement initiatives to capture project lessons learned and facilitate knowledge transfer within the team and organization
- Conduct root cause analysis for design, manufacturing, and field issues * Travel is expected - e.g. for vendor visits, equipment installation and commissioning
- A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent combination of experience and demonstrated exceptional ability. Senior roles are available for candidates with 5+ years experience.
- Experience or working familiarity with the responsibilities previously outlined
- Strong communication and team focused
- Deep Knowledge of the Paintshop, the technologies used and connected requirements
- Proficient in 3D CAD CATIA V5/V6 or Solid Works, Digital Pre Assessment of Body in White
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of programs.
- Familiarity with the design of paint shop equipment
- Prior experience in a mass production environment with a deep understanding of manufacturing processes.
- Experience with data acquisition and analysis and with equipment testing
- Experience in new model introduction
- Must be fluent in English and German language
