Your responsibilities
Duties include academic services in the project named above. Research associates may also pursue independent research and further academic qualifications.We are looking for a highly motivated Ph D candidate to become part of our CAARE Marie Skłodowska-Curie International Training Network. CAARE is a European Doctoral Networks project and deals with the characterization and recovery of bionanoparticles.
The goal of this Ph D project is to develop methods for the characterization of bio-nano-particles by using nanofluidic devices with a variety of functional elements and novel optics. The candidate will have to work in the cleanroom to design and fabricate the devices, and develop an optical set up for signal read out.
This will involve developing new protocols for nanodevice fabrication, tailored to its specific needs, and complying with the material requirements for biocompatibility and optical characterization. As part of the joint action within the European consortium, the candidate will also spend a few months working at different institutions in Europe, doing secondments in the labs of the other members of the network, to aquire complementary skills relevant to the Ph D topic and the project.
The salary corresponds to a MSCA position (outside the TVL scale) with 100% working time.
Your profileA university degree in a relevant field.
- a university degree (master’s degree) in nanosciences, physics, engineering, material science, optics or similar; the degree should enable the candidate to enroll in the Ph D program of the University of Hamburg at the start of the employment period; candidates who already have a Ph D degree are ineligible
- a strong background in experimental work, prior experience with nanotechnology, working in cleanrooms, micro and nanofabrication and/or optics will be strongly valued; experience in characterization of nanodevices will be a plus
- self-motivated and working well in an interdisciplinary field
- excellent interpersonal skills and a friendly nature
- good communication skills in English
- ready to spend a few months at different institutions around Europe, as part of the mobility and secondment program of the Marie Curie action
