This position reports to

R&D Electromechanical Chapter Leader

Your role and responsibilities

In this role, you will have the opportunity to contribute to ABB’s success with technology, software, product, and system development. Each day, you will identify and implement innovative solutions to relevant problems. You will also showcase your expertise by providing ideas and by being able to work both independently and as a part of a Research & Development (R&D) team.

The work model for the role is: hybrid

You will be mainly accountable for:

  • Lead or be an individual contributor in projects related to materials technology including polymers, metals & advanced manufacturing.
  • Contribute to new product or technology development via materials selection and optimization including processes.
  • Support Innovation, cost reduction & sustainability projects, as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with local and global teams and universities on new material design projects.
  • Plan & carry out material analysis to support ongoing programs using existing internal & external resources in a timely manner with the highest quality.
  • Effectively communicate technical information to a wide range of audiences.
  • Chemical Management for the site with respect to material safety data sheet, approval for purchase, storage, disposal and Product Material Compliance.
Qualifications for the role
  • Master’s Degree in Materials or Chemical Engineering with bachelor’s in engineering, from an accredited college or university.
  • More than 5 years of experience in relevant field is a plus.
  • Knowledge of material properties and specifications such as ASTM, ISO, GB, etc.
  • Hands-on experience in material characterization.
  • Awareness on the various manufacturing processes and surface treatments.
  • Ability to work independently within an Agile team structure.
  • Familiarity with electrical distribution and control products is a plus.
  • Knowledge in german language (level B2)
