About the Team

Keysight’s Power Solutions R&D team develops advanced electronic systems used across energy, automotive, communications, aerospace, and industrial applications. Our solutions range from multi-kilowatt switching power supplies and regenerative power systems to solar array simulators and grid emulators reaching megawatt-level performance.

The Bochum-based team is a highly collaborative group of hardware, firmware, and FPGA engineers working closely with our US counterparts in Budd Lake, NJ. Together, we design high-performance, high-reliability products that combine precision measurement with advanced power electronics.

The team offers a technically stimulating environment with strong cross-functional collaboration and significant influence on next-generation product architecture.

About the Role

As a Senior FPGA Design Engineer, you will play a key role in designing and implementing FPGA-based digital control and signal processing solutions for advanced power electronics systems.

You will contribute across the full development lifecycle, from concept definition and architecture through implementation, verification, and system integration. The role requires strong expertise in HDL development, digital system architecture, and hardware debugging within complex multidisciplinary environments.

This is an excellent opportunity to work on technically challenging products combining high-speed digital design, control systems, and real-world hardware interfaces.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement FPGA/HDL architectures for advanced power electronics and measurement systems
  • Lead digital design development for new product platforms
  • Develop, simulate, and verify HDL modules using Verilog, VHDL, or SystemVerilog
  • Define and implement multi-clock domain architectures and CDC strategies
  • Implement high-speed digital interfaces (e.g., SERDES, LVDS, high-speed serial protocols)
  • Design and integrate standard embedded interfaces (SPI, I²C, UART)
  • Perform timing analysis and constraint definition (SDC/XDC)
  • Develop simulation environments and testbenches using tools such as ModelSim or Questa
  • Debug digital hardware using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and on-chip debugging tools (ILA, SignalTap)
  • Collaborate closely with hardware, firmware, and system engineers to ensure robust system performance
  • Contribute to architecture decisions for digital control loops and signal processing algorithms
  • Support system integration, validation, and troubleshooting activities

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or similar technical field
  • Strong professional experience in FPGA or digital design development using HDL (Verilog, VHDL, or SystemVerilog)
  • Experience with FPGA toolchains such as Xilinx Vivado or Intel Quartus
  • Solid understanding of digital system architecture, clock domain crossing (CDC), and multi-clock designs
  • Experience implementing high-speed interfaces or digital communication protocols
  • Experience with simulation and verification environments (ModelSim, Questa or similar)
  • Strong debugging skills across FPGA and hardware environments
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in multidisciplinary R&D teams
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience working with power electronics, power supplies, or control systems
  • Knowledge of digital signal processing (DSP) or feedback control systems
  • Experience with embedded software or firmware development (C/C++)
  • Familiarity with embedded operating systems such as FreeRTOS
  • Experience working with mixed-signal hardware environments
  • Understanding of PCB-level digital design considerations
  • Experience contributing to product architecture decisions
