The Hector Research Institute of Education Sciences and Psychology at the University of Tübingen invites applications for the following position to be filled as soon as possible:
PhD Position in AI-Supported Analysis and Enhancement of Teaching Quality (m/f/d, TV-L E13, 75%, limited to three years)
We are seeking a highly motivated PhD candidate in the fields of Educational Research, Psychology, Educational Sciences, Cognitive Science, or related disciplines who is eager to engage in an in-depth and systematic investigation of the design and enhancement of teaching quality through AI-based feedback.
As part of the interdisciplinary research project "Enhancing Teaching Quality with Artificial Intelligence" (ETQ-AI), we investigate how artificial intelligence (AI) can be used to provide teachers with formative, evidence-based feedback on their teaching quality. The goal is to develop automated feedback systems that assess key dimensions of teaching quality, such as cognitive activation, classroom management, and student support, enabling teachers to engage in practical self-reflection on their instructional practices.
Within this framework, the PhD position will contribute an educational research perspective to the project, focusing on the validation and implementation of teaching quality models in AI-supported analyses, as well as the design and evaluation of effective feedback mechanisms.
We are looking for a PhD candidate with a strong interest in both theoretical and empirical research on teaching quality, ideally with enthusiasm for research at the intersection of educational research, pedagogical psychology, and AI. Experience in experimental research is desirable, preferably complemented by strong skills in quantitative analysis methods.
The successful candidate will work closely with Dr. Tim Fütterer, Prof. Dr. Ulrich Trautwein, and other project team members and will collaborate with researchers at the Hector Research Institute of Education Sciences and Psychology as well as the LEAD Graduate School & Research Network to design and conduct studies.

Proficiency in English as a working language in an international research team.
Experience with statistical analysis software, such as R, SPSS, or Mplus.
A willingness to engage in interdisciplinary collaboration and teamwork.
The ability to work independently and a high level of personal commitment.
A commitment to continuous professional development in line with the project's requirements.
