At the Faculty of Environmental Sciences, Department of Hydro Sciences, the Institute of Water Chemistry offers a position asResearch Associate (m/f/x)
(subject to personal qualification employees are remunerated according to salary group E 13 TV-L)
starting January 1, 2025. The position is limited to July 31, 2026 with 50% of the full-time weekly hours and with the option for extension up to a total of 36 month. The period of employment is governed by the Fixed Term Research Contracts Act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz – Wiss Zeit VG).The position offers the chance to obtain further academic qualification (usually Ph D).
Tasks: We are seeking a highly motivated researcher to join our cooperation project focused on advancing separation technologies through chemical modifications of porous media surfaces. The objective is to expand the application spectrum of these technologies, such as capacitive deionization.Your primary responsibilities will include designing, constructing, experimenting, analyzing, evaluating, and optimizing methods for chemical modification of porous media surfaces to achieve selective separation of targeted substances using electrochemical set-ups.
Additionally, you will conduct surface and chemical analyses, supervise students working on related projects (including project work, bachelor’s, and master’s theses), prepare comprehensive project reports, scientific papers and present findings at international exhibitions and conferences.
Requirements: university degree (Master/Diploma) in physics, chemistry, materials science, engineering or similar with very good grades. Strong knowledge and practical experience in separation technologies, chemical modification, and electrochemistry.Experience with chemical and surface analysis is highly desirable. Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team. High level of commitment, strong analytical skills, and the ability to think critically across disciplines.
Excellent communication and writing skills in English.
