Postdoctoral Researcher (100%, TV-L EG13) in BEATLE research group, Start Date: February 1, 2025 (or later)
The Department of Ecological-Economic Policy Modelling at the University of Hohenheim is seeking a postdoctoral researcher in ecological-economic modeling. In this role, you will be part of the BEATLE project, focusing on the synergies and trade-offs between organic and conventional agriculture and their interplay with biodiversity, particularly pollination services.Your work will be crucial in advancing research that informs the future of sustainable agri-food systems. Preferred starting date is February 1st 2025, initially until June 30th 2027, with the possibility of an extension.
Your tasks:
Lead the development of a CGE model for Germany, integrating both organic and conventional food sectors to explore their ecological-economic impacts
Examine the role of pollination services in agricultural productivity and biodiversity, assessing trade-offs between different farming practices
Collaborate with PhD candidates within the BEATLE project, focusing on the ecologicaleconomic modeling of transformation scenarios
Contribute to cutting-edge publications, project reports, and new research proposals
Build model linkages between farm-level and CGE models to deepen understanding of the feedback loops between land use, pollination services, and crop yields
Develop your own research program and conceptualize new project proposals
Your qualifications:
PhD in agricultural/environmental economics or related field (e.g., computer science focused on natural resources)
Expertise in economic simulation models (CGE,Öland-use, farm-level, or multi-agent systems)
Proficiency in GAMS and R (knowledge of Python or Julia is an asset)
Strong programming and data analysis skills
Proficiency in English is essential, a knowledge of German is an additional advantage
A passion for biodiversity conservation and the dynamics of organic vs. conventional agriculture in shaping sustainable food systems
