The Department of English, American, and Celtic Studies is looking to fill the following position in the area of English Language Education with effect from October 1st, 2026 initially on a fixed-term contract in accordance with § 2 (1) WissZeitVG until September 30th, 2029 (with the option to extend for another 3 years):

The English Language Education team focuses on the teaching and learning of the English language as well as literatures and cultures. It explores linguistic, literary, and cultural perspectives to support effective language education in diverse educational contexts.

Your tasks

independent research in the field of English language education and teaching methodology leading to a Ph.D. on a topic in English language education with a thematic connection to the division's research priorities

assistance in the development, implementation, and coordination of the division's research projects

collaboration in the teaching and research organization of the English Didactics division

preparation and delivery of courses in the field of English language education totaling 2,6 course units per term, including the administration of exams

responsibilities in academic self-governance and program administration

participation in the organization of the division's research activities (e.g., colloquia, conferences, workshops, establishing international networks, grant applications) and their documentation

Your profile

university degree in English (Master of Education, first state examination, or equivalent)

solid knowledge of foreign language pedagogy

strong communication skills and ability to work independently

excellent command of English (written and spoken)

experience with or a strong interest in scientific research methods and enthusiasm for academic work

openness to interdisciplinary and interprofessional work, as well as strong communication skills and the ability to work in a team

willingness to expand university teaching competencies

high degree of independence, commitment, flexibility, and resilience

basic knowledge of research methods in the field of foreign language pedagogy is desirable

teaching experience in schools is welcome
