YOUR IMPACT AT UMH
UMH is looking for a Developer Advocate to represent our products in technical communities around the world. A Developer Advocate is a developer's best friend. We are engineers with experience, building the kinds of systems we advocate for. We are leaders and earnest participants in the developer community. We care deeply about inclusion and providing a positive experience for all developers everywhere we go.
As a Developer Advocate at United Manufacturing Hub, you will be our go-to expert for managing and growing our UMH community.- Collaborate with users to create technical solutions that address a range of use cases, from beginner to professional levels. Share these solutions through various channels, including videos, blogs, and templates, to demonstrate how to develop and work with UMH and related software.
- Engage and support technical professionals across the community, fostering relationships that inspire and promote UMH. Identify and support external advocates and community leaders to encourage independent discussions about UMH and IT/OT integration.
- Develop and execute strategies to enhance community interactions, drive network growth, and increase UMH adoption. This includes organizing and participating in community events, conferences, webinars, and partner collaborations.
- Gather and synthesize customer feedback, using it to inform the product team and guide community-driven improvements. Use data and experiments to refine and improve strategies for boosting UMH adoption.
- Professional background in Business Informatics, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field (we welcome applicants from all disciplines who bring the passion and skills for this role).
- A self-starter who can manage and prioritize initiatives that will make developers successful.
- Experience with the industrial/manufacturing technology stack (PLCs, MES, SCADA, OPC UA, Modbus, etc.) and/or data streaming (Kafka, MQTT, Benthos, etc.) is strongly preferred; it's the backbone of our product, and we need you to be able to dive deep.
- Previous experience working with developers is highly desirable, whether as an advocate, an evangelist, a developer, or a solutions architect.
- Proven experience working with third-party communities, social media, and blogging is a plus.
- A deep understanding and appreciation for the constant and rapid shift in how and where people consume content and share their experiences.
- Effective communicator with good communication skills in German and English. You will be interacting with people from all over the world with varying levels of experience and communication styles.
We prefer candidates who can work onsite in Cologne (Germany).
WHAT WE OFFER?- Open-Source Company: Our core is, and will always be, Open Source (see our Git Hub repo).
- Build your own brand: Most of the source code and content you produce will be released with you as the author.

- Modern Workspace: Work in a well-equipped, modern office located in the heart of Ehrenfeld (Cologne), complete with a company barista.
About us
Bridging the computer and factory worlds, we empower engineers with best in class IT and OT tools. Factories worldwide produce millions of data points per second, but managing this data, especially in manufacturing, is complex due to challenges like navigating demilitarized zones, poor internet connections, controlling real-world operations, and requiring non-IT expert handling.
We have been bootstrapped since the founding a couple years ago, so we were able to grow naturally because of our customers buying the product. A couple weeks ago, we decided to further fuel that growing and decided to take in the German investor Freigeist / Frank Thelen.
