About the role
The Cross Functional Domain is an internal service provider to all RWEST development teams. The Database Engineering Team is a team of experts in various DB engines like Oracle, MS SQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB etc. who consults RWEST application and platform teams on database architecture and all related operational questions in the AWS Multi-Account environment.
The team supports more than a thousand databases. It is responsible for 24/7 support and the team size is currently expanded.
Your Responsibilities- Build and lead a team of 6 internal team members
- Implement a sustainable and efficient Agile way of team delivery
- Plan and implement a high level of Automation in the teams' regular tasks according to DevOps practices
- Act as a Product Owner/Area Product Owner for your squads
- Establish a good relationship to the various key stakeholders for this team and prioritise their requirements accordingly
- Be responsible for the teams' career/people development (e.g. target agreement, PDP, regular feedback)
- Ensure all resources and training is in place for the team to provide highly standardized and resilient support services to other RWEST IT teams
- Act as key contact for all IT services delivered to RWEST to ensure tasks are planned, prioritised (according to business needs) and delivered on time and to a high standard
- Manage the overall priorities of the team according to prevailing business needs while ensuring ongoing IT requirements are met
- Balance resources accordingly between keep-lights-on support, change/enhancement worklists and project deliveries. Ensure projects are delivered to time/budget/quality requirements
- Define and implement the team strategy delivering against business requirements, to include resourcing, training, adopting new technologies, tools and processes.
- Manage the budget for the team in accordance with latest agreed targets (people, cloud, licences, 3rd party costs, other)
- Good Leadership skills. Ideally experience in running teams with proven record of successful delivery
- Able to develop and maintain a strategic "big picture" for the team
- Broad experience with AWS Platform and a background in working with database technologies
- Strong communication skills with ability to bridge between business, team and IT leadership team
- People development - lead and motivate a diverse team with the focus to develop each individual
- Continuous improvement - act as role model for team and across RWEST IT to ensure all improvement opportunities are identified and acted upon
- Open and constructive way of dealing with issues or escalations
- Self-starter with the motivation and ability to perform in a dynamic and challenging business environment.
